The hill of Saint Ferréol, at 320m, is known from antiquity. It was a sacred spot for the inhabitants of Lorgues.
Archaeology has found a fortified Ligurian camp, which was excavated in 1977. This ‘oppidum’ dates from the second Iron Age, around the 4th century BC and was a place of refuge, in the position of a watchtower, as was often the case in this region. From the hill it is possible to see the sites of the oppida at Taradeau and Vieux Le Cannet.
Originally there were several rectangular enclosures one inside the other with dry stone walls around 4-5 m high and 2-3 m thick. All that remains today are some walls of the inner enclosure; two ‘rooms’ can also be made out in a corner of these walls.
